After Immortals took the title at iBUYPOWER Masters with a win over Cloud9, we got a quick interview
After Immortals took the title at iBUYPOWER Masters with a win over Cloud9, we got a quick interview with the team's coach, Rafael "zakk" Fernandes.
After Immortals secured their place at IEM Oakland by winning Group B, they went on to defeat Cloud9 in the grand final to triumph at their LAN debut with Lucas "steel" Lopes.
zakk believes Immortals are on the right path after the roster change
In the following interview, Rafael "zakk" Fernandes shared what the victory meant for the team's future and how Immortals will be able to fare at IEM Oakland in a few days.
Before you qualified for Oakland, steel said the goal was to win and you reached that goal, what does it mean for you?
It means that we're going on the right path. We switched zews and not everyone was okay with that in the team, but we did and steel is doing a great job and fits perfectly in our team. It looks like everything is working well, and it's probably going to work better in the future when we have time to prepare ourselves better than for this event.
After the final you guys seemed really excited about the victory even though there wasn't a significant bump in prizemoney and there wasn't much on the line at this tournament other than the IEM Oakland spots. Why was it so emotional?
We don't play because of the money, we play because we love Counter-Strike and we want to prove that even the little ones, like Brazil or, I don't know, Tunisia, Turkey, can beat a top team like Cloud9 or any other top team. You just have to work hard. Even when we came after losses at ELEAGUE and ESL Pro League, tough losses, we managed to win this tournament and we wanna keep it up.
On to Oakland, a pretty stacked tournament overall, how much do you think you'll be able to do among such competition with the limited practice you had?
I'm not gonna lie, it's gonna be really tough. Our goal is to reach the semi-finals, we're gonna do our best to reach that part of the tournament. But since we had one week and the best teams in the world will be there, anything can happen. We're just gonna do our best, we have to try, right?
